I've been playing the piano for 9 years, and I also play the clarinet and Irish penny whistle. I've been heavily influenced by Celtic and Classical music, and I composed my first piece for full orchestra when I was 13. I want to write a musical on the life of Nathan Hale. I already have about 8 songs for it (I have fully orchestrated the first song, entitled "In This Dark Hour.") The orchestra for the musical will consist of a basic chamber orchestra, with the additions of bagpipes, the penny whistle, and a solo violin (Celtic instruments). Throughout the musical, I want to have a piccolo and a snare drum playing together at times to emphasize that "colonial" sound. Aside from this, I have written several other songs. Pieces for the piano and/or clarinet are one of my specialties. I'm very good at embellishing/improvising, and I can make totally different variations of a song easily. I have a book that gives me the bare necessities of orchestration, but there's still a lot I don't understand. I can't do this without formal training. I really want to learn more.
